Victorian Big Battery
Moorabool, Victoria
Electrical Installation
Universal Project Group director Geoff Williams commenced work with UGL on this project while he was still a member of his former company Vic Tech. As part of one of Australia’s most significant renewable energy infrastructure projects, we were engaged to support UGL with both high voltage (HV) and low voltage (LV) electrical works at the Victorian Big Battery site in Moorabool, Victoria.
Our scope of work included the installation of 6.6kV cables in trenched routes between the HV switch rooms and the inverters, along with the glanding and terminations at each inverter. We also managed the installation and termination of control and power cabling between the inverters and battery banks.
In addition, we carried out the installation of 630mm high-voltage jointing (HJV) cables from the HV switchyard to the HV switch room incomers, and all related HV inter-trip control cables and terminations.
Our team was responsible for the installation of:
- Complete site earthing systems.
- Area lighting and general power throughout the yard.
- Control cabling from inverters to PLC panels.
- Cat 6 communications cabling to each inverter.
- Testing, including Very Low Frequency (VLF) and HV injection tests.
This project was delivered under strict safety and quality standards, contributing to the efficient and reliable operation of Victoria’s largest battery installation.
